Research interest

Despite wide use of antibiotics for several decades, bacteria are still a threat in infectious diseases because of acquisition of different ways of resistance to antibiotics. Therefore, I am interested in the adaptation of bacteria to their environment, especially under antibiotic pressure. Escherichia coli is a commensal gut bacterium of vertebrates, found in the environment and involved in numerous human and animal pathologies. The resistance to penicillins, frequent in E. coli, is often mediated by the enzyme TEM-1. By mutations appearance in TEM-1 E. coli adapted to new generations of b-lactams as 3rd generation cephalosporins. Hence, in the order to understand the adaptive dynamics of E. coli, we use TEM-1 as a model to investigate the distribution of mutations effects on the fitness.
